Monterey - Award at The Quail and GT Victory at Laguna Seca

August 2024

We’ve just returned from the incredible Monterey car week, since 2019 we regularly participate in what is probably the most fantastic event of the year for any petrolheads. With a mix of concourses, races at Laguna Seca, auctions and various events, we are excited to share our personal highlights.

Our Bugatti EB110 GT and Viper GTS-R « PlayStation » were on display at the Quail Concourse. The Quail is a fabulous concourse were manufacturers and collectors are invited to present their most exquisite cars, particularly those from the last four decades.

We knew about the PlayStation Viper ’s popularity, after experiencing it in Europe, now came the time for her USA debut. We were overjoyed when the organizers told us that it won an award and needed to head to the podium. It eventually won the « Post War Racing » Award, which sounds like a fantastic recognition after all the dedication and passion we put into restoring it to its original glory.

Witnessing the excitement surrounding this iconic GTS-R in the US was heartwarming. There wasn’t a moment without compliments or questions about the car. Once at the « Winners Circle » another awarded owner of a eight digits car, came to us and said « this is my all time favorite ».

This was a fabulous and very emotional event, we truly enjoyed every minute.

We were proud to show the quality of our freshly restored EB110 GT. It had an incredible success and turned many heads. This is a stunning one with its breathtaking Indian Red body, presented in « as new » condition. Stand next to it, open the door and people would come for a chat instantly.

The Monterey Car Week also features the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion at Laguna Seca, where we raced the Lola T70 and the spectacular Saleen S7R.

Competing in the "Pedro Rodriguez Trophy," which showcases vehicles from 1961 to 1975, our 1969 Lola faced quite a challenge. While the newer models enjoyed the advantage of slick tires, we were required to use treaded ones. This meant we couldn't replicate last year's intense battle with the Ferrari 312P, but we still managed to secure a well deserved 6th place finish.

In the « Scott Pruett Legends of Endurance », the Saleen S7R is always a strong contender. Perfectly driven by our customer it clinched the GT win on Saturday and placed 5th OA only outpaced by prototypes. The Laguna Seca circuit is ideally suited for this car, reminding us of ACEMCO’s remarkable pole position there in 2005, ahead of the factory Corvettes.

On another note, the Monterey Car Week's popularity continues to soar, establishing itself as the premier automotive event of the year. We witnessed an impressive array of hypercars, supercars, and high-value classics, along with thousands of classic vehicles. Spotting an Icona Ferrari, a Pagani or a Bugatti parked outside a restaurant has become a common sight. The interest for classic cars is gaining traction, appealing to a broader and more international audience.

In terms of the market and auctions, some expressed disappointment over declining values. While certain classic cars have seen a drop, interest in post-70s vehicles is significantly on the rise. The market for Hypercars and Supercars continues to grow, and high-quality Restomod cars are becoming increasingly popular. Additionally, the fascination with 90s and newer race cars is gaining momentum, attracting a diverse range of customers.

There is definitely a new generation coming to the market with new codes and expectations. Tomorrow’s market revolution is already on the way…
