PORSCHE 962 C For sale

Description

 This beautiful Porsche 962 C chassis 162 was built for the 1990 WSC Championship. This is the 16th from the end of the production run at Porsche and has all of late factory specifications. Bo Strandell, the well known Swedish  Porsche dealer and Le Mans entrant, took delivery of the car in July 1990. It was run in conjunction with Kremer Racing and the team was named « Convector », Convector was then a Swedish building company owned by Sven Arwindsson. The whole project was initiated and managed by Strandell.

The racing history is as follow :

          - WSC Nurburgring : Eje Elgh / Anthony Reid - DNF
          - WSC Donington : Anders Olofsson / Anthony Reid - 8th
          - Interserie Zeltweg : Anthony Reid - 1st 

 In an interview from 2009 for UK’s « Motorsport » magazine, Anthony Reid recalled the car very well : 

 « I did a few World Sports Car Championship rounds in a Porsche 962 for Strandell Convector Racing… The 962 was a nice car, fast but not intimidating… Another race that year, I drove in an Interserie event at Zeltweg, Austria. I had an epic dust-up with Bernd Schneider’s Kremer 962. He won the first heat with me behind him. I was first in the second race and won overall on aggregate. Nobody expected anyone other than Schneider to win and the organizers couldn’t find the British national anthem. ». It is important to mention that the car was delivered new with a 3.0 liter engine and was modified to 3.2 by the end of the season.

This stunning white and red 962 had quite a short racing career and at the end of 1990 it was sold to a US collector and was never raced again. It is pretty amazing that it was  raced only 4 times in period. As an historic race car it was raced very rarely in the US and made just a few appearances at the Monterey Historics and did quite well the last two times in 2009 and 2011 whilst in the ownership of Mr Junco de la Vega , a prolific collector of race cars. In 2014 the car was subject to a complete mechanical overhaul including engine and gearbox from RM Motorsport in Wixom Michigan who had serviced the car over the previous 16 years. In 2016 it participated in the HSR Sebring Sprint races, still looked after by RM Motorsport and has only been used for 2 hours since its extensive mechanical rebuild.  

This 962 C #162 could only be described as an amazing original car which has never been damaged and still retains all of its original Porsche components. Mechanically fresh and ready to race, this is one of the very best examples, since most  962s have had a hard competitive life. This is without doubt one of the most authentic ones which would satisfy the most demanding of collectors.
