Model history
The “Superamerica” name origins the Ferraris built in 50s and early 60s specifically for the US market, they mostly used an impressive 5 liter engine and were the fastest road cars then. Most of them were unique pieces and now priceless art pieces, the America / Superamerica line was replaced in 1964 by the 500 Superfast.
The Ferrari 575 Superamerica was introduced in 2004 as the 550 Barchetta successor, based on the 575 it however benefitted from an upgraded engine to 540HP. This was a big step from the Barchetta as a solid panoramic glass top replaced the soft one, called “Revochromio”, its transparence could be adjusted from the dash board. It could then be used as a Coupe and really enhanced the comfort. The kinematic of the top is really amazing as it rotates by 180° before lifting down to the trunk in 10sec. Furthermore the driving is beautiful and it was the quickest opened car in period with 320 km/h as top speed. A sublime and ultra rare Ferrari with only 559 examples built.
